Understanding Membership Types

Chess Nut provides three predefined membership types—Event Members, Standard Members, and Trial Members—to help club organizers categorize and manage their members effectively. These types are used across the platform for messaging, tracking performance, and maintaining records, and are included in many exports such as the Member CSV.

Membership Types Overview

Event Members

• Definition: Members who have participated in a few one-off events but are not regular attendees of the club.
• How They’re Assigned: Automatically assigned when someone registers for a club event and is not already listed as a member. Assignable when creating member manually or editing member.
• Visibility: Not included in performance widgets like the Most Improved Widget or the public-facing member list.

Standard Members

• Definition: Regular members who actively participate in the club and perhaps pay club dues.
• How They’re Assigned: Manually assigned when adding or updating a member in the New Member Form.
• Visibility: Included in the Most Improved Widget, public-facing members page, and exports like the Member CSV.

Trial Members

• Definition: Temporary members exploring the club who have not committed yet.
• How They’re Assigned: Manually assigned by organizers when adding a new member.
• Visibility: Excluded from performance widgets and public-facing lists.

The New Member Form lets you assign the appropriate membership type right from the start.

Sending Messages

Target specific groups (e.g., Event Members for upcoming tournaments or Standard Members for dues reminders) using the Send Club Communication feature.

The Most Improved Widget focuses on Standard Members, highlighting regular participants’ achievements.
